Dr. Maria Rambla-Alegre finished her studies in Chemistry Degree at the University Jaume I (Castellón, Spain) in 2005. In her last-year student of the Chemistry Degree she was awarded with a grant to initiate her training as a researcher in the research group of Bioanalytical Chemistry at the Department of Physical and Analytical Chemistry at the University Jaume I. Afterwards, she got another grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science to carry out her PhD project entitled “Determination of antibiotics by micellar liquid chromatography in physiological and food samples” in the same research group. During this period she was also awarded a further two grants for research placements at the Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic) and the University of Ghent (Belgium). Finally, she obtained the doctorate in March 4th, 2011, with the maximum qualification: Excellent “Cum Laude”. She has already published 25 articles in reputable scientific journals and presented around 50 communications in international scientific recognized symposia. Her studies have essentially involved work on the development and validation of liquid chromatography procedures for the determination of several compounds, including quinolones, sulfonamides, and anti-retroviral drugs, among others, which were applied in pharmaceutical, biological and food matrices. Besides her exceptional knowledge in liquid chromatography, she has a sound scientific background in capillary electrophoresis, gas chromatography, sample preparation and optimization procedures that allows her to complement her investigations and has resulted in significant papers in the analytical chemistry field. The Bioanalytical Chemistry group has greatly benefited from Dr. Rambla-Alegre’s capabilities, as can be seen in recent publications in Journal of Chromatography A, Talanta, Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry and other specialized journals that directly represent her work. Recently, she has published a review of her PhD results in the Journal of AOAC International. Nowadays, she is working in the Separation Science group headed by the prestigious and international recognized Dr. Pat Sandra at Ghent University (Belgium). She is carrying out the control of genotoxic impurities in active pharmaceutical ingredients by on-line analytical techniques.
